The value of freedom is greater than the value of convenience... true freedom, as in the freedom to wake up when you want and be able to freely choose how you spend your time every day, not just on the weekends or your days off. Once experienced, the value of true freedom is far greater than the value of convenience. Consider for a moment the fact that if you had the freedom to plan your day however your wanted, your life would probable look much differently. What would be convenient for you would also change. Driving 20 minutes to the nearest grocery store would seem very inconvenient if you were also working 40+ hours a week, but if you didn't have to work, 20 minutes away might seem like a good excuse to get out and go do something. Living in an expensive area just because we want to be close to things and near stuff we like to do, means that you will be working more and giving up more of your freedom to afford that lifestyle. Changing your mindset to accept being uncomfortable and inconvenienced is a means to gaining your freedom. If it was easy everyone would do it.

The whole point of this is that many of us live our lives based on what is most convenient to our lifestyle. We tend to move closer to where we work or move to a different city then we might normally choose for work. Individuals who do this are letting their job dictate where they live. What happens if you are unable to get a good job? What if your job is good, but it's in a bad part of town or a city you hate. Why do individuals do this to themselves? Shouldn't we live exactly where we want, within our means of course and still be able to find work that supports that choice as opposed to finding a place to live that supports work? Individuals will inconvenience themselves for a significant other, but never consider finding a significant other that makes your life more free. I believe this is misguided and leads to unhappiness in the long run. If you had to make sacrifices for 10-20 years so that you could live the rest of your life without having to make sacrifices, would you? Or would you rather work the rest of your life so that you can live in a convenient area?

This isn't just about individuals who have the ability to be financially independent, it's about everyone, especially those who don't have the resources. Part of the reason they don't have the resources, is often their mindset and often includes the mindset described above. Live your life the way you want and mold the world around you to be convenient, not the other way around. Maybe you don't want to reclaim your freedom though, or be happy... in that case keep your current mindset which has clearly been serving you so well. We get out of life, what we put into it. The ability to be comfortable being uncomfortable or inconvenienced is one of the greatest skills you can have if you want to get what you want out of life.
