Once experienced, the value of true freedom is far greater than the value of convenience. Consider for a moment the fact that if you had the freedom to plan your day however your wanted, your life would probable look much differently. What would be convenient for you would also change. Driving 20 minutes to the nearest grocery store would seem very inconvenient if you were also working 40+ hours a week, but if you didn't have to work, 20 minutes away might seem like a good excuse to get out and go do something. Living in an expensive area just because we want to be close to things and near stuff we like to do, means that you will be working more and giving up more of your freedom to afford that lifestyle. La Santisima Gourmet Taco Shop - Glendale, AZ
I have been to La Santisima on multiple occasions and it is definitely one of my favorite places to get a gourmet taco at a reasonable price. It is located just west of downtown Glendale in an area that is slowly being revitalized and can be easy to miss the first time you pass by. The building has been updated into a trendy, comfortable setting with great Dia De Los Muertos artwork and a quaint outside patio with parking in the rear. The salsa bar is located in the back of the restaurant with lots of unique options that I have never found anywhere else and they have a small bar with seating.
I always order the taco special which includes 3 tacos with beans and rice. My favorites include the Oaxaca Black Mole Chicken with a deep smokey mole sauce, the Cabo Shrimp with a genreous amount of fresh, crispy shrimp and the chicharone taco (the name of which I can't remember). The chicharones were perfectly prepared, crispy and meaty, reminding me of my childhood in NM. They also have a very tasty vegetarian taco the La Condesa which was a great change of pace from the typical taco offerings. The rice with corn is a great side dish and will leaving you wanting more. Everything is plated beautifully and I've yet to ever be disappointed. They also have great happy hour specials and plenty of seating for groups.
The restaurant is quiet and casual, great for a date if you want to talk and try all of the different salsas with the free chips that they will happily keep refilling. Wash it down with a tasty margarita or beer and admire the artwork. Also a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch or dinner if you find yourself in the area, as the service is fast and friendly.
